Challenges of Refugee and Asylum-Seeking Women and Girls
#16daysagainst Violence towards Women and Girls
November 29th, 2022, 4.00 - 6.00 pm
@ Universal Peace Federation - UK HQ, 43 Lancaster Gate, London, W2 3NA
Remy Duli, the CEO of Kosovar Albanian Youth Against Violence (KAYAV) and Deputy Chair of Refugee Advocacy Forum, organised a programme to highlight the plight of refugees and asylum-seeking women and girls during the 16 days of activism for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has long recognized the special protection needs of women and girls in refugee and asylum procedures. Despite all the work done throughout the immigration process, female refugees are disproportionately exposed to more dangers than men and continue to face challenges in their integration into society. Female refugees and asylum seekers are disproportionately affected by risks such as poverty, trauma and violence. Women are also far more likely to be victims of organised crime such as human trafficking and sexual violence.
Refugee Advocacy Forum in August 2022, launched its report ‘Going Full Circle’ that sheds light on the primary needs and experiences of refugees and people seeking asylum living in London. Kosovar Albanian Youth Against Violence - KAYAV with other member organisation at London Refugee Advocacy forum during their research with over 670 members, have identified the gaps and the special protection needs of women and girls in refugee and asylum procedures.
We are delighted to invite you to attend an event organised by the London RCO Advocacy Forum and the Refugee Council to launch the Campaign. ‘Escaping violence – Hoping for Sanctuary’ Following, the forum’s report on the primary needs and experiences of refugees and people seeking asylum living in London.
