Human Rights: Are Democratic Nations Upholding A Better Standard?


We would like to extend a warm invitation to you to attend a European Leadership Conference ("ELC") in the UK's Houses of Parliament on November 21-22, 2013 to consider the question 'Human Rights: Are Democratic Nations Upholding A Better Standard?' The ELC is co-sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP). A draft programme of the conference is attached including sessions on; "Inter-Religious Inclusion in Europe", "Responsible Sourcing of Conflict Minerals", "Women's Leadership in Peace and Democracy", "The Human Rights of Immigrants and Refugees in Europe" and "Youth Human Rights & The Right to an Education". UPF is a Partner with the UK Parliament Week and this conference will be one of a series of events within that week. For more information about Parliament Week and a list of events use this link.

The ELC series has included major events in National Parliaments, at the UN in Geneva and in Vienna and at the European Parliament in Brussels in the past few years and has focussed on serious and pressing issues such as human rights, human development, the European relationship with Africa and the future of multiculturalism. Remember Congo Week Event 'Break the Silence'


Last night there was a 'Remember the Congo' event held by Mothers of Congo and Universal Peace Federation (UPF)-UK as a part of Black History month. Speakers included 'Mama' Charlotte Simon, founder of Mothers of Congo, Humphrey Hawksley (photo above), BBC World Affairs Correspondent, who has made two documentaries on the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tatiana Giraud, the founder of the TG Foundation that supports several clinics for the care of rape victims and Florence Billi, who made an impassioned plea for an end to the suffering the people in the North and South Kivus. The documentary 'Crisis in the Congo' shocked many of those present when shown during the evening. A number of those who spoke later said they had been moved to tears by the images of the brutal treatment of the Congolese people during more than 120 years.

Music For Peace in the Middle East - International Peace Day Event


On UN International Peace Day, Universal Peace Federation - UK helped Tally Koren to organise a wonderful concert of Middle Eastern musicians in support of the Parents Circle Family Forum. Including Israeli, Palestinian and Iranian musicians such as Nizar Al-Issa, Udi Glazer, Hamid Rasti, Anna Kempton, Julia Stone and Woody Dean in St Peters church in Notting Hill. Photo link here.

Visit From HE Shri Balmiki Prasad Singh


Today we had a visit from HE Shri Balmiki Prasad Singh, the former Home Secretary and Governor of Sikkim Province in India. He is the new Chair of Universal Peace Federation in India. A distinguished scholar, author and public servant he spoke about his book 'The Bahudha Approach: A Path Towards A Harmonious World'.

  • Thursday 21st - Friday 22nd:  UK European Leadership Conference London (ELC) - Human Rights: Are Democratic Nations Maintaining A Better Standard? The ELC is jointly run by UPF and Women's Federation for World Peace. There will be a Youth Session during the conference.
  • Saturday 23rd: Youth Training Day is Proposed.
  • Sunday 17th - Saturday 23rd:  Seven Day Retreat & reflection time - please enquire if interested.
  • Tuesday 26th @ 6pm: (Core AFP) Ambassador For Peace "Get together" exchanging news and views, Followed by talk on at 7pm. Topic to be Announced!! At the UPF Headquarters, 43 Lancaster Gate.

  • Monday 2nd - Wednesday 4th: European and Eurasian Leadership Conference in UNESCO - Paris.
  • Saturday 7th @ 10:30pm - 6:00pm: UPF-UK Peace Council. At the UPF Headquarters, 43 Lancaster Gate. One of the central themes of the development of the Universal Peace Federation is the Peace Council that was proposed at the founding of the UPF as a place for people from many backgrounds to join together to discuss goals and strategies that can influence a city or a nation in a good direction.
  • Tuesday 17th - Friday 27th: Experience Christmas in Jerusalem. JERUSALEM: The first proposal comes to us from Youth MEPI (Middle East Peace Initiative) based in Jerusalem. We will have a service project, which will include working with children or youth in Jewish and Palestinian areas and visiting Holy places. We also hope to meet with groups who do reconciliatory works. (Dates may change slightly!)
  • Tuesday 31st @ 6pm: (Core AFP) Ambassador For Peace "Get together" exchanging news and views, followed by talk on at 7pm. Topic to be Announced!! At the UPF Headquarters, 43 Lancaster Gate. (This date is under discussion.)

International Relief Friendship Foundation (IRFF) - UK

Partner organisation IRFF-UK conducts annual humanitarian visits to schools in Uganda and Zambia as well as cooperating with UPF is supporting a medical project in North Korea. For more details please see the website here.
