Former Bishop of Jerusalem, Rt. Rev. Riah Abu El Assal, today welcomed European delegates to the Holy Land at the start of a five-day Middle East Peace Initiative event. He added that it was good that participants could gain a first hand understanding of a conflict that is central to world peace.
Based in Jerusalem the conference will include visits to Bethlehem, Tel Aviv and Ramallah and involve meeting with the political and religious leaders of both communities. Those attending are made up of a delegation of VIPs from Europe and a large contingent from the United States. The grandson of Martin Luther King will give a keynote speech at Hebrew University and a Global Peace Festival will then take place in Jerusalem where Dr. Preston Moon will give an address followed by a day of interfaith dialogue and a religious leaders’ forum.
Other activities include a service project being carried out in both communities by young people from Europe and a medical aid project.
