Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, Our Condolences

Duke of Edinburgh 450 220It was, sadly, not a surprise yesterday when Buckingham Palace said: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

Universal Peace Federation UK (UPF - UK) would like to express its admiration for the life of service and dedication to the UK and the Commonwealth that has exemplified Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, involving at any one time around half a million young people, will be remembered as one of the most prominent legacies of this life of service.

Keith Best, the Chair of the UPF - UK Board of Trustees, commented, “The Duke of Edinburgh epitomised selflessness in his service. He never personalised what he did but regarded it as a duty to humanity and the welfare of our world. He eschewed any cult of personality or self-obsession. In the current climate of where we hear so much self-promotion and about a sense of entitlement we should remember and seek to emulate his example and recall that true greatness has always been founded on personal humility and the needs of the wider community which he served so well”

He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family and in particular, Her Majesty the Queen, at this time.
