Challenges & Opportunities during COVID-19 Crisis – Young People Speak Out

In light of recent events, UPF hosted a youth led discussion on the subject of 'Challenges and Opportunities During the COVID-19 Crisis' on June 17th, 2020

This programme was convened by Universal Peace Federation UK in partnership with other groups such as Shout Out UK. 60 registered for the programme but more attended during the programme itself. We value the experience of the youth and know these are very difficult times. Youth thought leaders shared their observations and lessons learned during the COVID-19 global crisis in the hope that we can have a positive influence on our society and world. Every challenge is an opportunity for the evolution of ideas, habits, and relationships. The programme was designed to allow designated speakers to set the scene with their own experiences and observations of how the COVID-19 and lockdown has impacted them and then participants were invited to comment and share things that they realised or learnt during this period or how they spent their free time either during the programme together or in smaller break out groups.

The programme helped us to understand how youth organisations can adapt to serve and support in a post Covid-19 world. We want to make sure that young people have the support that you want and need.

One major point emerged during the conference. There was a great support for a zoom conference on 'Seeking Racial Harmony' (expressing this issue in a positive framework) because of the tragic death of George Floyd in the USA and the demonstrations that followed in many nations led to a new dialogue and reflection in the UK about our involvement in slavery.

Background to the UPF:

The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) has come a long way since 2005. The inaugural global tour by the co-founders, Father and Mother Moon, established a momentum that has continued through the years. Along the way UPF (please see  received a General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations only shared by 140 other global NGOs. UPF – UK has received charitable status approximately one year ago.

This year is also Father Moon's centenary. There have been several major events such as the World Summit in February 2020 to highlight this centenary year and to further explain his vision for building an extensive culture of peace. Father Moon's inaugural UPF speeches were rooted in this vision of a world that recognises its interdependence, seeks to build mutual prosperity based on universal shared values aligned with God who loves us all equally, as one family of humanity. The website provides more information about the centenary anniversary.
