Biography:
Amira El-Houderi is a volunteer at Lawyers for Justice in Libya (LFJL), an independent non-governmental organisation dedicated to defending and promoting justice in Libya through the promotion of human rights, the rule of law and democracy. LFJL is currently working on the Destoori (“My Constitution” in Arabic) project, which aims to educate Libyan citizens on the constitution making process, to gather public opinion, and to create a connection and sense of ownership between the Libyan people and their constitution. Amira joined the Destoori team as a member responsible for logistics and event planning, including organising the schedule of an educational mobile tour of over 25 Libyan cities and towns. She also was tasked with some of the media relationships for the project, introducing Destoori events on a number of national Libyan radio programmes and serving as a focal point for the project’s social media campaign on Facebook and Twitter.
In addition to her work for LFJL, Amira is involved in other activities, including acting as a polling station manager in London for the elections for the General National Congress, Libya’s first democratic elections in over 40 years. Amira is also a volunteer at the British Red Cross at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
