Mr Aliu Bello wrote, 'An event was successfully hosted by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) on March 17th at its Lancaster Gate premises. Over 80 distinguished participants drawn across the development community deliberated on how Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) would build on the achievement of MDGs, and the crucial role of partners at local and international levels.

Attention was drawn on the six thematic elements of the SDGs framework as outlined in the UN Secretary General Report of December 2014 (i.e. Dignity, People, Prosperity, Planet, Justice and Partnership).  These generated a lot of interest, especially with regard to the role of women at both international and national levels in the ongoing development and implementation processes.  Special focus was placed on areas of Justice/Peace, Women inclusiveness and Youth empowerment.

The main outcome of today’s meeting was a consensus to forge a strong partnership amongst the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency stakeholders to help move the SDGs forward in UK as well through them to other countries as well.'

The objective of the event is to raise awareness of the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals and to build a network of supporters for this initiative. The Universal Peace Federation holds a special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and seeks to promote many of the UN's initiatives.
